Helping to prevent, treat and cure canine diseases for all dogs today and tomorrow!

,

So far in 2021, the AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF) has awarded 34 new grants across 14 different research program areas. Through defined research program areas, CHF considers areas of unmet need and immediate opportunity, while looking to apply recent advancements in science and technology to canine health research. Each grant we fund is an effort to be responsive to emerging canine health concerns and priorities of our donors.

The Foundation is currently accepting proposals addressing vector-borne disease in dogs. Eligible proposals will undergo rigorous scientific peer review, and those awarded will join CHF's 2021 portfolio of studies to prevent, treat and cure canine diseases. Learn more about active vector-borne disease research in the tick-borne disease and immunology and infectious disease research program areas within the Tick-Borne Disease Research Initiative.

We invite you to catch up on informational webinars, browse the Research Grants Portfolio, and read recent canine health articles and newsletters.

CHF's Scientific Review Committee

Grant proposals submitted to CHF for funding consideration are reviewed by external peer reviewers as well as the Scientific Review Committee (SRC) for scientific merit, impact in the field of study, and the significance to dogs and their people. This stringent review process allows CHF to be confident that research is doing the most good for the most dogs, and making the best use of our donors’ contributions. The SRC is composed of a panel of veterinarians, medical doctors, researchers, and canine health experts who generously volunteer their time to help advance CHF's mission.  Dr. Stephanie Montgomery currently serves as Chair of the SRC. by Barb Fawver, Purina

The Bouvier Health Foundation in partnership with the American Bouvier des Flandres Club is stepping up to support two studies focused on one of the most aggressive cancers in dogs, hemangiosarcoma (HSA). Originating in bone marrow cells that help form new blood vessels, the cancer spreads to multiple tissues throughout the body often going undiagnosed until it is in an advanced, difficult-to-treat stage.
